Community Tsunami Education Center & Museum
This small museum just outside of Hikkaduwa is run by an elderly lady who collected photos from anywhere and everywhere on the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami that hit Sri Lanka. Apart from the fact that the lady is the absolute best tour guide through the museum, the photos are extremely impressive and the background information that is given is truly eye-opening. Dutugemunu Rajamaha Viharaya
A historical temple that owns a very rich history dating back to the period when King Dutugemunu was ruling the country back in the 1911’s. The temple is located up a mountain with a peaceful and serene environment. You can find this location here.

HOW TO GET TO HIKKADUWA FROM COLOMBO
How to get to Hikkaduwa from Colombo by train
You could take the train from Colombo Fort to Hikkaduwa, trains are available several times a day. The journey would last for 2 hours 15 minutes to Hikkaduwa and would cost you around Rs 100 to Rs 200 for second-class (which will most of the time guarantee you a seat).
How to get to Hikkaduwa from Colombo by bus
From the Colombo Bastian Mawatha Bus terminal, you could hop into a bus directly to Galle, where you can make a stop in Hikkaduwa(route 2 – 1 ). Would cost Rs 155 – Rs. 200, and take around 2 hours 45 minutes.
How to get to Hikkaduwa from Colombo by taxi
You can also arrange a private vehicle and driver to take you via a rental car or use one of the apps named Uber or Pick me (Sri Lankan app). This is the fastest but most expensive way to travel. It will take approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes from Colombo to Hikkaduwa. The ride would cost you around Rs 12,000 – Rs 14,000.
