Colombo To Galle via Tuktuk!
A long weekend arrived, so we decided to head down the southwest coast to Galle. Our chosen transport was a tuk-tuk! We rented one from tuktukrental.com and even learned to drive it ourselves. In fact, a quick and easy lesson got us on the road like pros. After a three-and-a-half-hour journey with the wind in our hair, we reached the beautiful colonial town in the afternoon.

Getting Settled and Exploring with Ease
We found a Colonial-style hotel to spend our two nights. It was conveniently just a 5-minute walk from the famous Unawatuna beach. From there, we could easily explore the glorious city. The architecture felt truly unique and almost European, despite being in a tropical Asian country.
Furthermore, having our own tuk-tuk made exploring the city completely hassle-free. As a result, we could drive and stop wherever we wanted. This also helped us avoid high cab rates for tourists. Ultimately, it was the best choice for our budget and allowed for much more exploration.

Discovering the Charms of Galle Fort
Everywhere we looked, we saw charming sights. For instance, there were old-fashioned cars, other tuk-tuks, beautiful architecture, and chic coffee shops. The streets themselves are decorated with unusual windows, colourful flowers, and exceptional antiques. Therefore, there was always something interesting to see while walking the paved roads of Galle Fort. Of course, we also stopped for a sneaky ice cream!
In addition, the National Maritime Museum, the clock tower, and the lighthouse were all fabulous places to visit around the fort. You should also watch out for the brave divers who jump from the fort walls into shallow water for money.

Relaxing on Unawatuna Beach
Of course, remember to wear sunscreen! One of the trip’s highlights was spending time at Unawatuna beach. We spent our mornings and late evenings there, relaxing and swimming. Enjoying the view was simply perfect. In fact, Unawatuna beach was a wonderful place to unwind after a long day’s walk around the fort. You can watch the bright orange and pink sunset while lying on the sand with a cold drink in your hand.

Our final day in Unawatuna came too soon. We started our drive back to Colombo with good memories and new experiences. Our trusty tuk-tuk was essential for getting around Galle. For example, we never had to look for cabs or pay high rates. Because of this, the fuel efficiency and convenience meant one less thing to worry about on our trip. We were also able to soak up countless amazing views along the way.
