How Much Does It Cost to Travel to Cambodia?

Flights to Cambodia

First things first, you, your family and friends have to get here. Let’s talk about flights!

Estimated Cost: $500–$1,200 round-trip (from the US or Europe)
Prices vary depending on the season and your departure city. Flights from Southeast Asia (Thailand, Vietnam, etc.) are much cheaper, often as low as $50–$150 round-trip.

Money-saving tip: Use fare comparison tools like Google Flights, Skyscanner, or Hopper. Booking 2–3 months in advance usually offers the best deals. Make sure to sign up on airline websites to receive emails with special promotions and discounts! 

Accommodation

Cambodia offers something for every type of traveler! For those who are social travelers, who want to meet other travelers, and share stories about your day’s adventure! Hostels and guesthouses are the place for you. We have some of the best! Budget traveler (hostels/guesthouses): $5–$15 per night! Yep! Yep! You will be saving lots of cash!

For groups and families, who want a relaxing home-like place to chill out and reflect on Cambodia’s magic.We have many many Mid-range hotels or private Airbnb stays: $25–$60 per night. You read that right! Many places you would easily charge twice that amount. You may never want to leave! From fine feather bedding, your own private pool, food that looks like art, massages, you will be in a dream that comes true.

Food & Drink

One of the joys of traveling in Cambodia is the cheap and delicious food. NO MATTER your budget, you’re going to love the food. Fresh every single day! Baked goods are made every morning. Pasta stretched by hand 3 times a day. It really feels like all of a sudden, our taste buds come alive! No dyes, no preservatives, food like food is supposed to be, good and good for you.Street food (think noodle soups, grilled meats, and local snacks): $1–$3 per meal. It’s a must do, and plentiful! Wear your stretchy shorts because the smells will be almost impossible to resist!

Want to sit and people watch or make the plans for the day, then relax at any of the Local Budget restaurants: $3–$7 per dish. Most almost always have Western food items, for those who are less adventurous and/or simply want a taste of home. You will find more Mid-range: $10–$15 Restaurants will be found in the bigger cities and hotels.

Cambodia does fancy quite well! High-range: $20 and up These restaurants have white linen table clothes, with servers dressed to impress. That they will from food made from award winning chefs. Don’t be surprised if the chef themselves comes out to greet you. You see, ALL CAMBODIAN people are amazing. From the street food vendors to chefs with white hats, you become not just a customer, you are now family

Transportation

Getting around is both cheap and simple: Rent your very own tuktuk: Starting at $22.00 a day all the way down to $14.00. The best way to get around, giving you the freedom to go near and far! Safe, fun and room for our luggage. This is where your vacation turns into an adventure.

There are also Tuk Tuk ( Taxi Drivers ) very budget friendly : $2-$5 for short trips. Hotel to restaurant or after a long night of celebration back to the hotel.  Buses: $8–$15 for travel between big cities, there are no inter-city buses in Cambodia. Private taxis: $40–$60 for long-distance routes or perfect for late night transportation to and from the airport.

There are many ways to get around, even by bicycle. Many places of stay offer them for free! 

If you want to jump big city to big city there are Flights (domestic, e.g., Siem Reap to Phnom Penh): $40–$100

Attractions & Activities

The highlight of Cambodia is undoubtedly Angkor Wat, but there’s so much more to explore.

Angkor Wat entry – They offer 1,3, or 7 day passes. I would recommend 2, this is The Eighth Wonder of the World! If you choose a multi-day pass, Here is the breakdown, One day: $37, Three days: $62, which allows for three non-consecutive visits within a 10-day period from the purchase date. Seven days: $72.You can use it for up to seven days within a 30-day period from the date of purchase.This flexible validity period allows you to pace your visits to the temple complex and avoid temple fatigueWe highly recommend getting a tour guide at the entrance. The guides speak multiple languages to explain all the history behind this magnificent temple. The carvings on the walls are intricate, telling fascinating stories of long ago!

Killing Fields + S21 Museum: $5–$6 each
Island tours, cooking classes, etc.: $15–$50+
Lotus Silk Farm: $5

If you’re planning on doing several tours or excursions, set aside around $10–$25/day for activities.

Visas & Travel Insurance

You can apply for a visa online prior to arriving or get a visa upon arrival at the Siem Reap or Phnom Penh airports. Visa on arrival or e-Visa: $30 (valid for 30 days). It’s always recommended to get Travel insurance: $30–$60 for 2–4 weeks, depending on coverage. This insurance gives options and coverage for trip interruptions, loss of luggage, medical insurance and so on.
