Namal Uyana – The Rose Quartz Mountains

Set in the ironwood forest in Dambulla is believed to be Asia’s largest rose quartz mountain. Even though it doesn’t sparkle like polished crystal, it does have an extraordinary dusty pink hue. It takes about half an hour to an hour to hike up to the mountain in order to witness the amazing view. You can find this location here.

Dambulla Cave Temple

One of the most visited and celebrated cave temples in Sri Lanka is the Dambulla cave temple, this temple consists of 5 temples and is on a massive rock at some 1118ft above sea level. You can find the location of the Cave temple here.

Sigiriya Fortress

One of the ancient rock fortresses, which has wonderful archeological history, where King Kashyapa built his palace on top of a rock 200 meters high. Named one of the 7 wonders of the world, Sigiriya is one of the most visited attractions in Sri Lanka. You can find this location here.

Kandalama Reservoir

This reservoir is 21 m high and 1600 m wide, and mainly used for irrigation purposes. Kandalama reservoir is such a beautiful location, the surrounding can take your breath away. You can find this location here.

HOW TO GET TO DAMBULLA FROM COLOMBO

How to get to Dambulla from Colombo by train

You could take the train from Colombo Fort to Habarana, trains are available twice a day. The journey would last for 1 hour 15 minutes to Habarana and would cost you around Rs 200 to Rs 475 for second-class (which will most of the time guarantee you a seat). From Habarana you need to take a taxi via Uber or Pick me, which would take about 30 minutes and cost around Rs.1300-Rs. 1900.

How to get to Dambulla from Colombo by bus

From the Colombo Bastian Mawatha Bus terminal you could hop into a bus to Trincomalee or Vavuniya (route 15/7 ) and make a stop in Dambulla. Would cost Rs 170 – Rs. 250, and take around 1 hours 45 minutes.

How to get to Dambulla from Colombo by taxi

You can also arrange a private vehicle and driver to take you via a rental car or use one of the apps named Uber or Pick me (Sri Lankan app). This is the fastest but most expensive way to travel. It will take approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes from Colombo to Dambulla. The ride would cost you around Rs 12,000 – Rs 17,000.
